My Journey as a Mother

I first found out I was pregnant the day before Thanksgiving. Dan and I were visiting my family and my Mom was preparing our big meal on Wednesday night. I suspected something was going on with my body because I was feeling a little off and to my suspicion we decided to get a test. I will never forget we were in my "princess" room upstairs and Dan was sitting on the bed reading a book as we waited for the results. As soon as the two pink lines appeared I excitingly looked up at him and said, "we are going to be parents!" He looked at me with a shocked expression and said, "are you sure?" I showed him the test results and he couldn't believe it. I ran downstairs to get my Mom and told her she needed to come upstairs immediately! She was still in the process of cooking so she asked if it could wait and I insisted that she needed to come now. She walked upstairs and we went into my bedroom. I grabbed the test that revealed the news and asked her to read it to me. She squinted her eyes and looked at the test and said, "What!? Is that really two lines!" I said yes! My sister happened to be across the hall and heard all the commotion and came into our room. She said, "What is going on?" I tried to hide my smile and say, "Oh nothing's going on here." She didn't believe us so I showed her the test and she was shocked! She said something like, "Wow, my little sister is going to be a Mom". Even hearing the word, Mom gave me chills. We decided to keep it a surprise from my Dad  until dinner. My Mom and I bought a bib that said, "I love you grandpa" and a pack of Nuk binkies that were similar to the ones we used as babies.

As the day slowly passed it was finally time for dinner. I waited until my Dad got up to give Riley (his dog) some table scraps and placed the gift on the table. My Dad sat back down and pushed the bag to the side, not even realizing that it was for him. I just smiled and said, "Dad aren't you going to open your present?" He gave me a very confused look and said, "It's not my birthday, what's the occasion?" I said, "Dan and I decided to give you an early Christmas present because we wanted to be here to see your face." He opened the bag and the first thing he said was, "Your kidding!" I said, "You are going to be a grandpa!" He was so excited and shocked at the same time!

That will be a day I will never forget. God graciously allowed my family to be a part of a very special moment even though they live a thousand miles away. It was definitely the best Thanksgiving to be thankful for!
